From the month of October, 2010 onwards members of parliament (MPs) in India are now getting more daily allowances and travel facilities. It is a Diwali gift for the people representatives from the present Congress government. According to this a member is entitled to a daily allowance of Indian Rs 2,000 per day during any period of residence on duty. Besides, member is entitled to a road mileage of Indian Rs 16 per kilometer, and the spouse of an MP will also be able to enjoy better travel amenities. Now, an MP's spouse can travel in the first class air-conditioned or executive class in any train from the place of residence of the Member to Delhi, the capital city of India and back. At the time session in parliament, the spouse can travel by air or partly by air and partly by rail. But one condition is that the total number of air journeys shall not exceed eight in a year. An MP is also gets an advance to a maximum amount of Indian Rs four lakh for purchase of conveyance from the month of October. Earlier the salary and pension was raised with effect from May 18 last year. The salary of MPs will now be Indian Rs 50,000 as against Indian Rs 16,000 earlier while the minimum pension will now be Indian Rs 20,000 per month as against around Indian Rs 8,000 previously. The member will also get additional pension of Indian Rs 1,500 per month for every year if he/she had served as an MP in addition of five years. |
